At Least Seven Fatalities Reported, as Storms Leave Widespread Damage

A series of severe storms, including at least one confirmed tornado, battered the Houston area on Thursday, leaving at least seven people dead and causing widespread damage. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a number of tornado warnings and severe weather alerts for the region, as the storms continue to move through the city.

The tornado, which struck a suburb of Houston early Wednesday morning, caused significant damage to homes and businesses. According to the NWS, the tornado was rated an EF-1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, with winds reaching up to 110 mph. No fatalities have been reported in connection with the tornado, but several people were injured.

In addition to the tornado, the storms also brought heavy rain, hail, and strong winds to the Houston area. The NWS has issued a flash flood warning for the city, as well as a severe thunderstorm warning for the surrounding counties. School officials have canceled classes in the city on Friday as a result of the storms.
