Cole Palmer Vs Manchester City

Cole Palmer's Late Penalty Earns Chelsea a Point Against Manchester City

The Young Star's Cool Finish Denies City All Three Points

London, November 12, 2023 (BBC Sport) -

Cole Palmer netted a dramatic stoppage-time penalty against his former club Manchester City to rescue a point for Chelsea in a thrilling encounter at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues trailed to an early goal from Erling Haaland but fought back to equalize through Kai Havertz before halftime. City regained the lead in the second half through Riyad Mahrez, but Palmer had the final say with a coolly taken spot-kick in the dying moments.

The result keeps Chelsea in the top four and extends their unbeaten run to seven games in all competitions. City, meanwhile, remain top of the table but miss the chance to extend their lead to four points.

It was a memorable day for Palmer, who made his first start for Chelsea since joining from City in the summer. The 21-year-old showed no nerves as he stepped up to take the penalty, sending Ederson the wrong way to spark wild celebrations among the home fans.

Chelsea manager Graham Potter praised Palmer's composure after the game. "He's a young player with a lot of talent," Potter said. "He's shown great character today, and I'm delighted for him."

City boss Pep Guardiola was disappointed with the result but admitted that Chelsea deserved a point. "We played well in the second half, but we couldn't get the third goal," Guardiola said. "We have to give credit to Chelsea; they played very well."
