Mississippi State to Pay Half of Arnett's Remaining Salary

Buyout Documents Reveal Terms

MSU May Not Be Liable for Full $4.5 Million

According to documents obtained by The Clarion-Ledger, Mississippi State University will be responsible for paying 50% of former defensive coordinator Arnett's remaining $9 million salary as part of his buyout agreement. However, the university may not be on the hook for the full $4.5 million.

Arnett, who was hired as head coach in December 2022, had previously signed a four-year contract worth $3 million per season with escalators. This made him the lowest-paid coach in the SEC during his tenure.

The buyout documents also reveal that Arnett's successor, Brock, signed a contract on December 20, 2023, to serve as Mississippi State's next defensive coordinator. The terms of Brock's contract are not yet publicly available.

In his first season as head coach, Arnett is due a total of $3 million in pay, which includes a base salary paid by the university and its affiliated organizations.
